About the role

Ready for real life challenges day after day? If so, our Electrical Apprenticeship is for you. This discipline covers a range of skills for supplying power – from land based sub-stations or ship-borne generating sets to main distribution boards, fire detection systems, weapon systems and facilities maintenance. For example, there is approximately 60 miles of cabling on an Offshore Patrol Vessel. Each cable end has to be terminated, tested and set to work. The electricity generated on a modern ship could easily power a small village.

Ready for real life challenges day after day? If so, our Craft Modern Apprenticeship Programme is for you. It's a minimum three-year apprenticeship that will train you to work on the installation of electrical systems & components during ships construction

What can you expect? A common basic training programme is delivered in year one, mixing theory with practical work experience. Vocational training along with college programme in the second & third year means it’s a mixture of ‘on and the job” training’ and working on ships in construction our refit in the yards and attending a day release at college.

You'll join Maritime - Naval Ships  - the team that designs, builds and delivers complex warships and combat systems.

What you’ll need

As an Electrical Apprentice, if you gained your qualifications in Scotland, you'll need five Standard Grades (or National 4s) including English, Maths and a science or craft/ technical subject at Level 4 or above (or equivalent). For those applying from the rest of UK, you'll need five GCSEs grade A-D (or equivalent) including English, Maths and a Science subject. Qualifications aside, you'll be able to demonstrate a level of hands on electrical aptitude and will have good team working and communication skills. Applicants will be expected to be medically fit as deemed necessary to perform the role, be eligible to work in the UK and be able to successfully achieve security clearance.
